First 5k

Saturday was our (Sara and my) first 5k!  My goal was to run the entire distance (and secretly in my head to finish in less than 45 minutes, but I didn't say that one in my out-loud voice).

And I did it!

Considering when we started this running an entire 5k would have probably landed me in the hospital (or dead alongside the trail), I am proud of myself and excited about my finish.

My Dad, Step-mom, and brother surprised me by being there to cheer me across the finish line - icing on the cake!

In all my years as an athlete, as a member of more than one undefeated team and championship team, very few moments have felt as personally gratifying as this one.

Sara, I've said it before, and I'll say it again - thank-you so much for your patience (and slower-than-you-can-walk pace) and thank-you for letting me invite myself into your workout plan.  I'm crossing my fingers for a nice afternoon today, I'm ready to run again.

  1. COngrats!! That's a real accomplishment. I am signed up for a 5k in October (the same day my husband is running his first MARATHON), and I initally planned to run it, but we'll have to see! :)

  2. AWEsome (she sang in her high-pitched voice). I think I've written that on your blog before. :) Seriously, congratulations. That is such a huge accomplishment. Be proud, friend. Be proud.

  3. Whoo hooo!! Congrats! If my name were on that chart it would say: Maggie Crawford - did not complete, stopped at ice cream shop to eat and pass out out!

  4. I've been having a great time. It's been a good way to get back some of the lost years

Hopefully we can go out tomorrow. Of course once we decide not to go today it stops raining.

  6. Very nice! So glad you enjoyed it! And once again, we have something in common...I, too, was on undefeated (and State Champion) teams (Volleyball!) in high school. :) And yes, running was a bit more personally gratifying than even that!

  8. What a joy to read you finished. I am thinking about a 5K myself and I'm not fond of running, but there's a run for a local ministry here in town that I'd love to join in on. Wondering if I can finish or if I'd collapse before then. :)

    You inspire me.

    Thank you.

  9. Running rocks and I'm so happy that you are enjoying it! Keep it up and great job on the 5k. It's so exciting for a "seasoned" runner watch others come around to the joy in it. :) Truly, I love it.
